Getting a New Garage Door for Your Business? Consider These 3 Things
Has the garage door on your office building shown signs that it needs to be replaced? If so, you'll need to reach out to a local commercial door contractor for help with replacing your door. Here are some things to consider when getting a new garage door installed.
Security
Security should be a top concern when having a new garage door installed since there is likely a lot of items that you need to protect within your business. Not only do you have tools and inventory that can be stolen, but a break in will result in downtime that causes lost income. Don't make your garage door a point of vulnerability for your business.
If the garage door has windows, ask about having the glass replaced with panes that are shatter-resistant. It will prevent someone from trying to get in by breaking through the glass rather than lift the door up. You can also have locks installed on the door that prevent it from being opened. This can be done with deadbolts that extend to the frame of the garage door, requiring you to unlock them with a key if someone is trying to open the garage door.
You can also hook a garage door up to a security system. You can get alerts if someone opens up the garage door outside of normal business hours, which will alert you to suspicious activity.
Employee Training
Chances are that your employees will be doing the majority of operating the garage door rather than yourself. It will help to train your employees on what problems to look for with the garage door so they can report them immediately. The goal is to catch problems early to help extend the life of the garage door. Employees should be on the lookout for odd noises, shaking when the door is raising or lowering, and bent tracks.
Bumpers
A lot of people may be entering and exiting your business through the garage door, which can result in someone accidentally running into the door. All it takes is one person to hit a part of the door to cause some serious damage. Ask about having bumpers installed around the garage door's frame, which will help protect the door from accidental impact. While it won't protect the door from all damage, it can be just enough to absorb the impact from small bumps caused by customers and employees.
