Deciding On Various Garage Doors

Do you remember when the last time was that you really evaluated the health and appearance of your garage doors? Although most people don't think too much about it, being able to look into garage doors and know what to choose can help you to shape the exterior of your home. I started focusing on my garage doors months ago, and it was clear that there were some problems that needed to be resolved by a professional. After they came out and helped us, the garage doors looked incredible, and I knew we had built more value into our home. Check out this blog for more tips.

3 Common Causes Of Garage Door Damage

As a homeowner, you should know the garage door parts that often sustain damage. This way, you can take the appropriate action before the issues escalate and cost you a ton of money in repairs.

Learn more on the common causes of garage door damage.

Broken Springs

Garage door springs allow you to open and close the door smoothly. With frequent use, these springs wear out, especially due to rust or poor maintenance. Eventually, they break, causing your garage door to fail.

You can hear the springs snap and fall off as you try to open your garage door. If you don't hear the springs break, ensure that you regularly inspect them to ensure they remain intact. Also, check the ground below for any broken springs.

Other signs of broken springs are:

  • Hanging cables
  • Gaps in the springs
  • Door opens crookedly

Once a spring breaks, don't use the garage door. Contact your garage door repair specialist to repair or replace the springs before you can use your door again.

Opener Issues

With a garage door opener, you can conveniently operate your garage door with the push of a button. Unfortunately, the opener can develop faults that affect the garage door's operation. You can replace the opener's remote batteries, but other underlying issues may be to blame if the opener still doesn't respond.

For instance, if your opener has a poor quality or an undersized motor, the opener can't handle the electrical workload. So it overheats and malfunctions. Also, a wrong voltage supply (too high or too low) is a culprit for an overheated motor and eventual garage door opener failure.

An electrical short in your system can also cause opener issues. Opener electrical issues are best handled by a professional so be sure to let an expert handle them.

Worn Rollers

Rollers eliminate drag as the door moves up and down the track. If the rollers sustain damage, they can't work as expected. Garage door rollers can deteriorate with use which causes your door to move in a jerky fashion. Damaged rollers also cause violent vibrations as you operate your garage door. If left alone, the vibrations can damage other door parts.

Since rollers wear out over time, you should inspect and lubricate them occasionally. This way, you will avoid costly repairs and also extend the roller's life.

If your garage door sustains damage due to any of these issues, you should reach out to a reliable garage door repair service. However, if you have an old garage door and repair costs begin to pile, consider getting a new garage door.
